Short Story Contest – “Life”
DW Beam Publishing’s Short Story Contest is open to all fiction writers who will be age eighteen or older as of May 31, 2022. We are looking for short stories that have not been previously published, that are between 2000 and 3000 words, and must not have been previously chosen as a winner, finalist, or honorable mention in another contest. We also require that the short stories not include content that would be considered offensive in any manner. We welcome writers from everywhere in the world from all walks of life and all levels of writing experience. We are looking for works with a broad theme of “Life” that present the theme in a powerful and unique way. We welcome and look forward to reading your short stories.
There is NO SUBMISSION FEE for this contest.
Short stories can be submitted by including a pdf copy of your edited manuscript in an email to dwbeampublishing@gmail.com. Please include the following information in the email: Author’s name, Address, Contact Information, Summary of the Work, and Word Count as well as a brief biography of the author. Submissions will be accepted beginning June 1, 2021 at midnight, EST time. The deadline for submissions will be May 31, 2022 at midnight, EST time.
Awards: First Prize Winner will receive $100 and a book of their choice from our catalog, Second Prize Winner will receive $50 and a book of their choice from our catalog, Third Prize Winner will receive $25 and a book of their choice from our catalog, and five Honorable Mentions will receive a book of their choice from our catalog. All winning entries will be given the option to have their short story published in our short story collection that we are planning to release in Fall of 2022.
Judging: The contest will be judged by a panel selected by DW Beam Publishing including:
DW Beam – Publisher and editor DW Beam is also the author of the science-fiction series, The Adventures of Kimball McRyan and Planeterial, as well as many other titles in a variety of genres.
Jaylin Beam – Publisher and editor Jaylin Beam is also the author of the fantasy series, The Mark Of A King, as well as a children’s book, The Moon’s Race.
Arminda B. Roddy – Arminda B. Roddy is the author of Maya’s Mountain: Where God Stands Up. Arminda B. Roddy also has a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing and is currently teaching Creative Writing at her local high school.
Dr. Sam Newsome – Dr. Sam Newsome is the author of award-winning novels, Joe Peas and Jackie, as well as the upcoming novel, Boy in the Treetops.
The judges will not be aware of the author’s biography or writing portfolio. The submissions will be judged solely on the quality of the writing.
Winners will be announced to the public by July 1, 2022. All writers who enter will be notified by email of the judges’ decisions. The judges reserve the option to declare a tie in the selection of winners.
